Atomico invests $4,200,000
in 6Wunderkinder
Today Niklas Zennström (co-founder of Skype) has invested, with his venture capital firm Atomico, $4.2 million into our team and forthcoming product, Wunderkit. The investment means so much to us in so many ways, and we’re honored to have the support of Niklas and his team as we go forward.
We are always looking for the best investors: Investors that will offer us impeccable guidance, who believe in what we do, who will follow us hand-in-hand as we change the world. Atomico is an investment firm that actively looks for companies with this mentality, and has funded more than 50 companies on four continents.
A beautiful partnership
Niklas Zennström is someone we admire. Along with Janus Friis, Niklas created the free music-downloading service Kazaa. It was controversial, to say the least. He went on to found many other companies, but one stands out from the crowd. Niklas continued his work with Kazaa’s basis (peer-to-peer sharing) and this gave birth to Skype.
In 2006, he founded Atomico, an investment firm that now has offices in London, São Paulo and Hong Kong. He and his team seek out and back radically disruptive companies; ones that are, or will become, category winners. Some of the companies in its portfolio include Rovio (the makers of the smash-hit Angry Birds), Last.FM and Jolicloud. As we can see from his (albeit very quick) described history, Niklas was radical and disruptive himself. He thought outside the box, and created things that truly changed our lives.
Skype redefined how people around the world communicate. With a novel idea and the will to challenge the old order, Niklas changed the course of history. Well, this is what we want to do too. For us, it is a match made in heaven. We’re so excited to have Niklas on board with us as we change the way people collaborate and work, with our next product Wunderkit. This is the first time Atomico have invested in a German startup, and based on the amazing community here and the amount of other game-changing startups in Germany, I’m sure it won’t be the last.
Redefining productivity, together
The investment will accelerate product development, with a focus on Wunderkit. Funding such as this is not easy to find, especially with the kind of core values Atomico has. It will ensure our products will redefine the productivity market again and again, and that we can source the best people on the planet to make it happen.
